How Platy.cz works?

Methodology behind salary survey Platy.cz

Platy.cz is an internet site where you can compare salaries for more than 700 job positions. The list of positions reflects the labor market in the Czech Republic and is continuously updated.

This salary survey was established in 2007 (then under the name Merces.cz). The author of the methodology for collecting, gathering, and processing data in the survey and their evaluation is Alma Career Czechia s. r. o. The same data collection methodology is used via localized salary portals in Slovakia (Platy.sk), Hungary (Fizetesek.hu), Poland (Pensjometr.pl), Bulgaria (Zaplatomer.bg), Romania (Paylab.ro), Estonia (Palgad.ee), Lithuania (Manoalga.lt), Latvia (Algas.lv), Croatia (Mojaplaca.hr), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Plata.ba), North Macedonia (Mojaplata.mk), Serbia (Infoplate.rs), and on the international portal Paylab.com.

Who is Platy.cz for?

The target group of the portal consists of people in the labor market who want to compare their wage, and companies that need to make remuneration decisions based on current and reliable data.

Individuals

People not only in the Czech Republic but practically in every labor market have the need to compare their wage, mainly to find out whether they are fairly rewarded for their work. The amount of salary represents for many a measure of recognition and self-worth, and at the same time serves as a practical indicator for financial planning or career decisions.

Comparison can motivate improvement in performance, further education, or a change of job. It also supports transparency and helps reveal possible inequalities in remuneration. Ultimately, it is not just about money, but also about the feeling of fairness, recognition, and equality in the workplace.

Companies

Companies investigate wages in various surveys to keep track of current trends and remain competitive in the labor market. This helps them attract and retain talented employees, set fair and transparent salary policies, and prevent turnover.

Such data also serve as support for budget planning, performance-based remuneration, and internal comparison of individual positions. Thanks to this, companies can effectively manage their wage strategies and build a trustworthy working environment.

Salary Comparison for Individuals

Employed people can compare their salary for free with current market wages on Platy.cz. To compare, it is necessary to fill out a salary questionnaire, which is anonymous. The output is a report in which they can see a comparison of their salary with the current average salary on the market, taking into account the region specified in the questionnaire. The output is supplemented by wages according to age and, for comparison, wages in selected countries. The report also includes the most common non-financial benefits provided for the position and advice on how to negotiate salary.

Platy.cz Services for Companies

Services for companies are provided within the Salary Tool. The Salary Tool is a web application where you can activate the service Salaries from Employees and/or Advertised Salaries.

Salaries from Employees

We collect wage data directly from employed people who have filled out the salary questionnaire. These data are automatically cleaned of duplicate and extreme values. The cleaned data enter our smart model, which is based on quantile regression and considers relationships between positions, regions, company size, education, experience, and age. Thanks to this, we can determine the wage level even for positions with a lower number of respondents. Each report transparently states the number of respondents for the selected position.

The report contains a so-called histogram, i.e., a graph showing the distribution of employees for the required sample into wage bands.

Another important statistic is the wage range expressed by basic percentiles, where the base and total wage are compared.

Wage data for companies are displayed using basic percentiles:

  • 1st decile – 10% of employees earn less than the given value
  • 1st quartile – 25% of employees earn less than the given value
  • median – half of employees earn less/more than the given value
  • 3rd quartile – 25% of employees earn more than the given value
  • 9th decile – 10% of employees earn more than the given value

In addition, the client can choose the so-called midpoint, the percentile value for which they wish to display the corresponding wage in the report.

The report continues with other graphs and tables showing wage breakdowns according to basic criteria that are decisive for wage: experience, company size, education, age, etc. At the end, the report also includes a wage prediction for the next year. The wage report can be targeted at a selected industry.

Company size

  • Small company – up to 50 employees
  • Medium company – 50 to 249 employees
  • Large company – over 250 employees

Experience

  • junior – up to 2 years of experience
  • medior – 3 to 5 years of experience
  • senior – 6 or more years of experience

Information on Financial and Non-Financial Benefits

In addition to wage data, if there are enough respondents, the report also provides an overview of the remuneration package and non-financial benefits. Data on financial and non-financial benefits are calculated using classical statistics, and we require at least 15 respondents who meet all criteria specified in the form for these calculations.

Wage data in the Salaries from Employees service are updated monthly.

Due to the international nature of the survey, companies can access wage data for more than 130 countries worldwide. The unified survey methodology at the global level thus enables wage comparison in different countries.

Advertised Salaries

The data source is advertisements from Alma Career job portals in Slovakia (Platy.sk, Pracazarohom.sk) and in the Czech Republic (Jobs.cz, Prace.cz, Pracazarohem.cz, Atmoskop.cz). Wage data are entered by companies in a range from-to, and the average value is also calculated in the report.

Statistics of advertised wages include data from more than 300,000 active and closed advertisements over the last half year. Wage data in the Advertised Salaries service are updated daily.

To ensure the relevance of wage data from advertisements, we take measures to improve data quality:

  • an offer is included in statistics only once (if published on multiple portals or by a recruitment agency)
  • only job offers for permanent employment are included in statistics
  • extreme values are removed

The wage report for advertised salaries also includes an overview of wages by region, company size, suitability for graduates, or required language skills.

The Advertised Salaries service also enables quick access to current advertisements, so you can directly see details of job offers according to the selected filter in the Salary Tool.

In Which Cases Is It Not Possible to Display Wage Data?

Despite applying our smart model, it may happen that it is not possible to display salary information for a given position. This happens mainly with new positions or when we have historically too few collected data for a country.

In such cases, for individuals, we offer a document with advice and tips on how to negotiate salary. The user can request automatic sending of the salary comparison when it becomes possible to estimate the salary. All they need to do is provide their email address, to which we will send a link to the salary comparison.
